Race Report

Today was my first race of the season. I lost an hour of sleep, and ended up with about 3 hours. The race was St. Patrick’s Day 8K which was near Freedom Plaza on Pennsylvania Ave.

My goal was to run it in under 31 minutes, since I haven’t been training too hard through these cold winter months. My first mile was strong, but probably a little too fast as I went out in 5:55. I found my pace for miles two and three at about 6:08 per mile. Miles 4 and 5 were kind of  killers, as heading back I was running straight into the wind and lost 10 seconds on my pace.( It also probably didn’t help that I went out too fast on my first mile).  I ended up finishing in 30:55, just under my goal.

Besides it being about 32 degrees and pretty windy, it was great to see so many runners come out (4045 finishers) despite the weather conditions.

Next race: Cherry Blossom 10 miler.
